Nehemiah Coxe on Biblical Elders & Deacons

The subject of leaders in the church has been a point of study for many Christians  for a number of years now and it has expressed itself in both biblically and through the opinions of various individuals. The bible speaks very explicitly of the qualifications and roles of the elders and deacons especially in the pastoral epistles. Monergism just released Nehemiah Coxe’s book titled Biblical Elders and Deacons which details the appointment of elders & deacons as well as the relationship that these leaders have with their congregation. This is a great little book and highly recommended for those who are interested in learning more about biblical leadership.

A Return and Some Revamping

keep-calm-we-re-back-15I’ve taken a lengthy break from this blog due to circumstances that have lead me to do so. I have also been busy helping with other websites and also assisting a church plant in the Greater Moncton Area. These items and everyday life have made it difficult to continue the blog however I’m happy to say that I’m preparing to do some more work on this website and continue my efforts to bring good theology to Christians in this great city. I have written a number of posts that should be published shortly and also I have began a revamp of some of the pages on the website. I plan on doing an overhall of these pages and to add even more resources for Christians in the Greater Moncton Area and abroad. Obviously I welcome your comments or suggestions so please feel free to write to me.

With that said, I have made some changes to the page on Covenant Theology. You’ll notice that we have added further book recommendations, websites, audio presentations and we have added a series of videos for those who are interested in finding out a little more about Baptist Covenant Theology.

Baptist Ecclesiology

union-point-church-005The study of ecclesiology is the study of the church or the assembly. It is the study, for the most part, of how we gather together as an expression of worship where we live out this worship together. The discussion on how we express ourselves as a church and essentially how we do church has faced many disagreements so much so that we see the result of this through the vast number of denominations out there. The study deals with the nature of the church, what is the church, the function of the church, church government and how we worship as a church just to name a few.

There are a number of fantastic volumes written on ecclesiology and many are quite informative. I have been interested in delving a little deeper into the topic but had a tough time finding out which resources I should begin with. I contacted Tom Ascol from the Founders Group who made a recommendation to me that I thought I would share. The book is free online and written by a baptist minister by the name of J.L. Dagg which is part of a larger volume called Manual of Theology. Too access the book, please go here.
